Last week, the U.S. Commerce Secretary, Gary Locke, unveiled details of the National Export Initiative (NEI), a new effort by President Obama aimed at doubling U.S. exports over the next five years to support 2 million jobs in America. According to the press release, NEI is focused on three key areas:

  1. A more robust effort by this administration to expand its trade advocacy in all its forms

Financial results keep coming in from software vendors and 3PLs, confirming what we already knew: 2009 was a challenging year.

Here is some of the news that caught our attention this week:

At the end of January, two RFID suppliers announced that the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus will be using RFID tags to track thousands of components and parts for the A350 XWB aircraft models. Airbus had previously announced that if a part is serialized, repairable, and replaceable, it would require either an RFID tag or a contact memory button (CMB).
