WHY WE START HERE
Every analyst interaction begins with two questions. These questions are designed to create clarity quickly and determine whether analysis will actually be useful. They are simple by design.
QUESTION ONE
What problem are you trying to solve right now?
This question focuses on immediacy and specificity. A useful answer describes a real constraint, risk, or decision; exists in the current operating environment; and can be acted on within a defined time horizon. If the problem cannot be clearly articulated, analysis is unlikely to help.
QUESTION TWO
Is this effort budgeted or exploratory?
This question clarifies intent and readiness. A budgeted effort signals commitment and authority. An exploratory effort changes the type of conversation that makes sense. Neither answer is wrong, but they lead to different outcomes.
WHY BOTH QUESTIONS MATTER
Together, these questions force clarity early, surface constraints that matter, and prevent wasted time and mismatched expectations. Without clear answers, conversations drift. With them, even short engagements can be productive.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Based on the answers, a tactical or strategic engagement may be appropriate, a retainer may be recommended, or no engagement may be the right outcome. There is no pressure to proceed. Alignment is the goal.
